Did your kid just join the Broken Bone Club? Here’s Summer vacation rescue for kids stuck in a cast.
The only thing worse than breaking your arm during the very first week of summer vacation, is breaking BOTH arms!
This was the fate of my daughter’s friend who had the misfortune of a horseback riding tumble during the very first week of summer break. Never mind that she wouldn’t be able to go swimming — our little patient was dreading 6-8 weeks of hot, sweaty, smelly, itchy cast torture! Fortunately, relief came quickly with some fantastic products from CastCoverZ.
Look Cool in a Cast
First you can see the CastCoverz “Armz” – a soft, cool, stretchy material that fits over her casts. She is pictured here in the design “Lots of Dots” and at the top of this page in the “Rainbow Swirl”. They come in lots of colors for any discerning taste, and are functional as well as adorable. Our patient loved that they not only looked cute, but they also “disguised” her casts. Her mom liked that they not only protected the casts, but they protected the rest of her house from the scratchy casts! No more scratching up table surfaces or scuffing the furniture.
“I really liked the covers because they came in a lot of designs, and people would not realize that my arms were broken. It cut down on the questions about my arms. They look cool and are fun to wear.”
When you pair these with the Bones Club t-shirt that she is sporting, then you’ve really got quite an ensemble. As a mom, I didn’t think a child this age would really care that much about a t-shirt, but to my surprise the shirt has been well received! In fact, her mother told me that as soon as she washes it, it’s right back on her again. She seems to be enjoying the special notoriety from being a member of this exclusive club. There is also a free printable Broken Bones membership certificate that CastCoverZ offers on their website, too.
Keep the Cast Dry with CastShields
With her mom’s help she also tried to the CastShields to help keep her casts dry in the shower. She had to be careful to make sure the fit was good, but they definitely were preferable to the garbage bag with duct tape that they had been using.
Next week, she is really looking forward to using the DryPro vacuum cast protector beach. Even if her mom doesn’t let her swim in the ocean (a little hard with two broken arms!), it should really help to keep waves from splashing her and keep all that itchy sand out of the casts.
UPDATE: Our little patient had a great time at the beach! The DryPro kept the sand out of her casts and she was even able to swim in the ocean and get tumbled around by some waves — and her casts stayed dry!
Hot Itchy Cast Relief at Last!
Finally, the Holy Grail of her cast relief was the Cast Cooler. This item provides such amazing relief that my daughter’s little friend couldn’t say enough good things about it.
You wrap it around your cast and hook it up to a vacuum cleaner hose. It pulls clean cool air through your cast. It’s Heaven!
This product does everything it claims! One thing she wanted to note was to be sure that you store your CastCooler carefully to keep the adhesive surface clean so that it will continue to work well. She does this by setting it inside it’s plastic packaging after each use.
“I love the CastCooler the most because it actually works! My cast doesn’t smell, doesn’t itch, or feel sweaty. It is really easy to use at home. It feels really good and the feeling lasts for a while. It is definitely worth getting!”
The CastCoverZ. company was a joy to work with. Professional and efficient We highly recommend them to anyone who needs some relief from their cast.
So, summer vacation is saved. Where else can you get two thumbs up, even with two broken arms?
