Step by step instructions for making Cat Whiskers with string

Making the Cat Whiskers string figure is one of the easiest to learn. The steps for this are actually exactly the same as the first part of how to make Jacob’s Ladder, so if you can make this, then you’ll be half way to that string figure too. Begin with a string the right length in a big circle across your palms, and follow the steps below. Here are the steps for how to make Cat Whiskers with String:

Step 1

Start with the standard opening. You put the string across both of your palms in a big circle that is the open position. Then use your pointer finger to pick up the string from each of your palms. This position is used frequently to start many string figures

Step 2

Drop the thumb strings. Reach under all the other strings with your thumbs and pick up the last string with your thumbs and bring it forward. It should look like this.

Step 3

With both your thumbs, reach over the first string and pick up the second string.

Step 4

Drop your pinky finger strings. Then, with your pinky finger, reach over the last string and pick up the next string. It will look like this if you have done it correctly.

Step 5

Finally , drop the thumb strings. You have made cat’s whiskers! (When I held this up for my cat, Rocky, he put his nose up to it perfectly in the video! He is so cute!)
